Joe studied music/trumpet at the University of Minnesota with trumpet professors' Ernie Villas, Stephen Chenette (past President of the International Trumpet Guild [ITG] and David Baldwin (current Professor of Trumpet and the University of Minnesota). In addition to his studies at the U of M, he has studied trumpet with Lynn Weeda at the University of Alaska, Anchorage; Brass Chamber music at Humboldt State (CA); Jazz at MacPhail School of Music and in the Navy bands. He has been a regular or freelance trumpet player on many big bands, concert bands, orchestras, brass ensembles, jazz to Dixieland combos and R & B groups. Joe also does some of the band's musical arrangements. This varied background is a good fit for Pizzazz Jazz's musical flexibility. "As the lead player in the horn section,
my main job is to keep the group 'tight', while not inhibiting the
great talents of the other players."
